More details on House budget expected soon

INDIANAPOLIS – A top Indiana lawmaker says more details of what Indiana’s next budget will look like should emerge in the coming weeks.

Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma told reporters Thursday he expects the House Ways and Means Committee to approve a budget shortly. He said he expects it to include more funding for education and transportation than Gov. Mike Pence submitted in his budget requests.

Bosma has yet to say exactly how much would be spent under the state’s next budget and on what programs.

Lawmakers must also decide whether they approve a roughly $500 million tax cut sought by Pence. The money would come out of a surplus left by former Gov. Mitch Daniels.
