Don't fret too much about the Homested girls basketball team. Despite a 54-53 sectional finals loss to South Side on Saturday, the future looks bright for the Spartans.
Homestead (21-4) will return its entire starting lineup and reportedly has some talented middle-schoolers coming into the program next year.
With the team's lone senior – Emily Bley – missing a majority of the season with a knee injury, the NHC runner-up Spartans grew up this year with mostly sophomores (eight) and freshmen (three) and junior Sydney Buck, who had 17 points against the Archers.
There's also sophomore point guard Josie Fisher (14 points), already an IPFW recruit, sophomore Grace German, and freshmen Savannah Buck and Lindley Kistler (14 points).
Kistler hit two free throws with five seconds left to give the Spartans a 53-52 lead before things were spoiled by South Side's own heroics in the form of two free throws by Lakyn Gulley with 2.5 seconds.
Yep, these Spartans should be a force to be reckoned with for some time.
