Fine day in pool for area swimmers

Wawasee sophomore Breanna Robinson and Homestead junior Caroline Weigand were the top finishers among local athletes at the preliminaries of the IHSAA swimming state championships.

Robinson finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 50.07 seconds) and third in the 100 free (50.83) at the IUPUI Natatorium on Friday night in Indianapolis.

Weigand took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.82).

The finals are today, beginning at 9 a.m. with the diving preliminaries.

Snider junior Hannah Miller had the fourth-best time in the 500 free (4:56.42).

Weigand will have plenty of company today.

The Spartans’ 200 medley relay team – Weigand, senior Bailey Pressey, junior Reagan Cook and junior Katie Krivacs – was fourth with a time of 1:45.50.

Pressey placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (55.53) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.27).

Cook was sixth in the 200 IM (2:02.89).
