IU announces addition to football coaching staff

Indiana announced Monday that former Oklahoma offensive line James Patton joined the football coaching staff.

Patton, who had coached at Oklahoma since 2006, will be the Hoosiers' recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and assistant defensive line coach.

Patton also spent seven as a player and coach at Miami (Ohio) and seven years as an assistant coach at Northwestern.

"I have a lot of trust and confidence in James Patton," coach Kevin Wilson said in a news release. "I coached him and worked with him as a graduate assistant and an assistant coach. James was one of the toughest players that I've ever coached, and he is an enthusiastic, hard-working football coach. He has been in the big time arena, is a Midwest guy and brings some balance to our staff."

Jon Fabris, who served as defensive ends coach and oversaw punt return and block last season, will coach the defensive line and will have no special teams duties, the university said.
