Mad Antics

  • Mad Ants set tryout in Washington, D.C.
The Mad Ants will hold open tryouts on Sept. 28 in Washington, D.C. for the upcoming NBA Development League season. The open tryout will be one of several tryouts held by the Mad Ants across the country.
  • New affiliates for the Mad Ants
While nothing has been formally announced, the Mad Ants are likely to take on affiliations with the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
  • Several Mad Ants stars to Europe
Everyone knew the Mad Ants roster would look different, even in the wake of the team's first D-League championship.

Quiet time for Ants

Except for guard Ron Howard, who is playing in Saturday's D-League All-Star Game in Houston, and Tony Mitchell, who is participating in the slam dunk contest, all is quiet on the Mad Ants front.

General manager and president Jeff Potter is vacationing in Florida's Disney World, where he told me he was "knee deep in princesses."

Coach Duane Ticknor made it back to his home in Chicago to spend a little family time.

And the players are scattered about, getting rest.

The break comes at a good time.

The Ants had recently gotten off a swing in which they had nine consecutive road games.

Luke Harangody had injured a knee. Howard was just getting over a knee sprain. Back-up point guard Anthony Harris had logged heavy minutes, and it was beginning to show. And Anthony Richardson was trying to put some weight back on after he lost it because of the flu.

The Ants won't return to action until Feb. 22, when they play at Erie.
