Elkhart man puts memorial wall, lot up for sale

ELKHART – An Elkhart man who created a tribute to Indiana’s fallen soldiers, firefighters and police officers has put the memorial up for sale.

The Elkhart Truth reports Don Fisher has listed the Wall of Heroes and the lot it sits on for $35,000.

Fisher says he owes about $500 in back taxes and the property will be auctioned if he can’t pay the bill.

He says he’d rather sell it to an organization that can maintain it than let it go at auction.

Fisher says he had hoped the city would buy the site, but Mayor Dick Moore told him the city didn’t have the funds. He’s now talking to veterans groups.

The memorial features photos of 300 fallen soldiers, police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
