IPFW at UMKC

When: 8 p.m. today

Where: Kansas City, Mo.

Records: IPFW 10-16, 3-9 Summit League; UMKC 7-19, 4-8

Radio: 1380 AM

IPFW leaders: Frank Gaines (19.3 ppg), Mario Hines (5.6 rpg), Pierre Bland (2.6 apg)

UMKC leaders: Estan Tyler (11.2 ppg), Fred Chatmon (7.6 rpg), Tyler (3.2 apg)

Key matchup: While Tyler is the only UMKC player who averages in double figures, he scored 19 against the Mastodons the last time out in a 63-59 Kangaroos victory at Memorial Coliseum. Thomas Stanton came up with 14. Frank Gaines led IPFW with 17 points, and Mario Hines had 13. Both teams shot well in the first meeting. IPFW was 24 of 48 from the field, and UMKC was 24 of 47.

The skinny: The only thing these two teams are playing for is seeding in March’s Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Kangaroos are tied for sixth, and IPFW is in eighth place, with only IUPUI behind it. The Mastodons have dropped their last three games and five of their last six. UMKC, meanwhile, ended a five-game losing streak with an 80-65 win over South Dakota.
