    You may have heard that Darryl Bootland has defected from the CHL's Allen Americans to join a team in the ECHL. It's not the Komets, according to general manager David Franke.

On the veterans limit

I have received several questions from readers about this.

No, the ECHL has not increased the number of veterans from four for next season, as part of the new collective bargaining agreement with the players' association.

It remains four, even if one of those is a player/assistant coach.

(Actually, since the ECHL doesn't include goalies as veterans, you can carry six, but that's another story.)

The difference is the ECHL didn't actually recognize player/assistant coaches in the past. This may mean that there is a provision that player/assistants can get some money that doesn't count against the salary cap, but the ECHL communications department is still waiting to get a full briefing on what went on, at which point they'll tell me.

By the way: My new favorite player.
