ATV rider hurt in DeKalb car wreck

An Auburn teenager was injured after attempting to cross a road in DeKalb County on Wednesday while riding an ATV.

Shortly after 3 p.m., police responded to a call about a two-vehicle crash on County Road 68 in southern DeKalb County, according to a written statement from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Tylor Kooistra, 16, was traveling northbound on Daisy Lane on an ATV when he tried to cross County Road 68 and pulled into the path of a westbound car, the department statement said.

Kooistra’s ATV was struck by the car and was thrown into the ditch alongside the road, according to the statement.

Kooistra was transported to Parkview North Hospital with a broken leg and other non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Both the ATV and car sustained heavy damage in the crash. The wreck remains under investigation.
