Award/recognition

Cole Mishler, 23, of South Whitley and a senior at the Cleveland Institute of Art, won third place and $1,000 in the 20th annual Student Design Competition, sponsored by the International Housewares Association. Mishler designed a Painting Organization System ladder that includes a paintbrush, roller, self-refilling paint tray and trim tape dispenser and has wider steps and wide feet to ensure stability.

Giving back

Local Dressbarn stores are conducting a S.O.S. – Send One Suit – Weekend donation drive March 7 to 10. Professional women’s clothing items that can be worn to a job interview can be dropped off at any store and will be given to women in need.

Spay Day

HOPE for Animals will celebrate National Spay Day on Feb. 26 by offering free micro-chipping and vaccines to residents who schedule a regular priced spay. For information, call 420-7729.

Scholarships

•Applications are being accepted for the Julia L. Atz Scholarship through the Noble County Community Foundation. The $2,500 scholarship is for a college or post-graduate student pursuing a career in classical music performance or conducting. To apply, go to www.noblecountycf.org. Submission deadline is April 30.

•Scholarships are available to students who are related to 1922 to 1971 graduates of Fort Wayne Central High School. A $500 scholarship is available for first-year college students and a $1,000 scholarship is available for a third-year college student in education. Deadline to apply is April 29. Nominations sought

The Salute to Senior Service program, sponsored by Home Instead Inc., is seeking nominations through March 31 for outstanding senior volunteers who are ages 65 and older and give at least 15 hours a month to the community. To nominate, visit www.salutetoseniorservice.com, where online voting will run from April 15 to 30.
