Man charged with drugstore holdup

Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man with robbing a Fort Wayne drugstore in November.

The night of Nov. 13, David Whalen went into the Walgreens at 2410 Coliseum Blvd. N., near East State Boulevard, and approached the pharmacy counter, according to authorities.

Whalen had his hand on his belt and waist implying that he had a gun, and he gave a worker a note demanding painkillers. He left with $893 worth of fentanyl and methadone, court papers said.

Whalen, of the 2600 block of Repton Drive, was charged with robbery Friday in Allen Superior Court. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Months earlier, he was charged with robbing a Walgreens in Decatur, and police arrested him on that warrant Nov. 14, court papers said. On Feb. 4, he posted a $40,000 bond to be released from the Adams County Jail.
