    Zach Terrell threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns, two to Corey Davis, as Western Michigan won its sixth straight game Saturday, 32-20 over Central Michigan.

Gaines’ 22 helps IPFW win on road

– Frank Gaines scored 22 points as the IPFW men’s team won its second consecutive road game with a 64-51 victory Saturday over South Dakota.

The Mastodons (12-16, 5-9 Summit League) had lost nine consecutive road games until they won at UMKC on Thursday, then completed the road trip with the victory in Vermillion, S.D.

EASTERN MICHIGAN 56, BALL STATE 50: In Muncie, Snider grad J.R. Sims had 18 on four three-pointers to lead the Eagles (12-13, 5-6 Mid-American). Jauwan Scaife led the Cardinals (10-14, 4-8) with 21 points.

BRADLEY 80, INDIANA STATE 68: In Peoria, Ill., Tyshon Pickett and Walt Lemon Jr. scored 17 points apiece for the Braves (15-12, 7-8 Missouri Valley). Dawon Cummings scored 19 for the Sycamores (16-10, 9-6).

CREIGHTON 71, EVANSVILLE 68: In Evansville, Doug McDermott scored 21 points, passing 2,000 for his career, to lead the Bluejays (21-6, 10-5 MVC).

DETROIT 84, VALPARAISO 74: In Valparaiso, the Titans (18-9, 10-4) denied the Crusaders (20-7, 10-3) a share of the Horizon League regular-season title.

SAINT FRANCIS 77, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE 67: Scott Kohne had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and three others scored in double figures for the host Cougars (18-12, 10-8 Crossroads).

DAVENPORT 67, INDIANA TECH 67: Jeff Hoskins had 21 points as host Indiana Tech (21-9, 14-8 WHAC) fell to Davenport.

SPRING ARBOR 75, HUNTINGTON 58: In Huntington, Shane Merryman scored 28 points and TJ Short had 18 for the Foresters (16-14, 7-11 Crossroads).

GRACE 69, TAYLOR 63: In Winona Lake, Bruce Grimm Jr. had 22 points for the Lancers (21-8, 13-5).

HOPE 81, TRINE 72: In Angola, the Thunder (14-11, 7-7 MIAA) fell to Hope (17-8, 12-2) in a prelude to Thursday’s MIAA tournament game at Hope.

EARLHAM 61, MANCHESTER 59: In North Manchester, the Spartans (4-21, 1-17 HCAC) lost their 16th consecutive game.


IPFW 71, SOUTH DAKOTA 64: The Mastodons won their third straight game and fifth of their last six in the annual Pink Out game at the Gates Center.

Amanda Hyde was 8 of 13 from the floor and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for 23 points and added four assists for IPFW (11-14, 7-6), which moved into a tie for third with South Dakota (12-14, 7-6).

SAINT FRANCIS 66, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE 58: The Cougars won a share of the Crossroads League title but lost the coin flip to determine the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament.

Kayla Drake scored 19 points and was one of four Cougars (27-3, 16-2) in double figures in the home win, but later in the day, co-champion Indiana Wesleyan won the coin flip for the No. 1 seed.

The second-seeded Cougars will face seventh-seeded Marian at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hutzell Center in the first round of the Crossroads tournament.

DAVENPORT 102, INDIANA TECH 64: Visiting Davenport (27-2, 20-2 WHAC) shot 70 percent from the floor in the second half to steamroll Tech (13-17, 11-11).

HUNTINGTON 70, SPRING ARBOR 60: In Spring Arbor, Mich., Taylor Foley had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Foresters (17-12, 9-9 Crossroads).

TRINE 72, KALAMAZOO 58: In Angola, Sydney Spragg’s 23 points led the Thunder (14-11, 8-8).

MANCHESTER 61, EARLHAM 43: In North Manchester, Erynn Meiklejohn scored 12 points to lead the Spartans (10-15, 9-9).

TAYLOR 78, GRACE 66: In Upland, Grace (18-11, 9-9 Crossroads) lost despite Juaneice Jackson’s 22 points, and 15 from Allison Kauffman.

AKRON 64, BALL STATE 52: In Akron, Ohio, Nathalie Fontaine had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals (12-13, 8-3 MAC).
