Sound mixers crown ‘Les Miserables’

“Les Miserables” took the top honor from the Cinema Audio Society’s 49th annual awards Saturday.

The musical was awarded for sound mixing in a live action film. “Brave” received the award for sound mixing in an animated film.

“Les Miserables” is joined in the sound mixing Oscars category by “Argo,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln” and “Skyfall.”

Awards were also given for sound mixing achievements in television.

‘Pi,’ ‘Skyfall’ lead sound editing wins

Two sound editing Oscar nominees split top awards at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards on Sunday.

“Life of Pi” won for both music in a feature film and dialogue and ADR in a feature film. “Skyfall” won for sound effects and foley in a feature film.

The two films are nominated for the Oscar with “Argo,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Django Unchained.”

“Les Miserables” won for music in a musical feature film. Sound editing in an animation feature film “Wreck-It Ralph”

ADR is the process of re-recording or dubbing dialogue in a studio. Foley is the reproduction of sounds.

Television awards were also given.

Film editors honor ‘Argo,’ ‘Playbook’

The American Cinema Editors on Saturday gave top awards to several Academy Award nominated films.

“Argo” won the Eddie Award for best edited dramatic feature film and “Silver Linings Playbook” won for comedy or musical.

The two films are nominated for a film editing Oscar along with “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

The 63rd annual ACE awards also honored “Brave” as the best edited animated film and “Searching for Sugar Man” as the best edited documentary feature. Several television awards were also given.
