Hey, kids: It’s cool to count your pennies
Teaching children to monitor their spending habits is a valuable lesson that can stay with them for the rest of their lives. So while it may have become less common for children to see their parents entering receipts into their checkbooks, that doesn’t mean there aren’t teachable moments. Virtual Piggy lets parents set spending limits and saving goals for children while also using brand partnerships to give children a chance to buy products without needing to get their parents’ credit card. The site and app are the brainchild of software engineer (and mom) Jo Webber, who worked with regulators to learn how best to manage privacy on the site.
Free, but requires registration, for iOS and Android devices.
