Big win for IPFW

At last, IPFW stood up to the bully from Oakland.

After losing 10 consecutive games to the Golden Grizzlies, and appeared to be headed toward No. 11, IPFW pulled away from Oakland for a 77-71 victory at Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday.

Five players, led by Frank Gaines' 17 points, scored in double figures for IPFW (13-16, 6-9 Summit League). Luis Jacobo had 15, Joe Reed had 14, Joe Edwards had 11 and Mario Hines had 10.

Oakland sharpshooter Travis Bader, the Summit League's second-leading scorer (22.1 average), had 23 points, but was 2 of 10 from three-point distance.

Until Wednesday, IPFW's last win over Oakland was on Feb. 16, 2008, when the Mastodons won in Rochester, Mich. 71-68.
