Deer Ridge gets OK for iPad lab

– Students at Deer Ridge Elementary will soon have access to new technology and Apple iPad 2 devices.

The Southwest Allen County Schools board Tuesday unanimously approved the technology purchases that will cost more than $20,000.

The cost of an Apple iPad 2 Learning Lab and Pack, along with Apple Care insurance, will be $11,639.

The learning lab and pack will be paid for by an Early Intervention Grant for $9,999. Deer Ridge’s student activity fund will chip in the remaining $1,640.

The Apple iPad Learning Lab includes 10 iPad devices, according to the company’s website.

Deer Ridge Elementary will also buy two iPad storage carts for $9,160.

The carts are used to store, charge, sync and secure up to 30 iPad devices, according to Apple’s website.

The carts will also be paid for from the student activity fund.

Also on Tuesday, the board discussed proposed summer camps for students.

Board members are expected to vote at the March 5 meeting to approve the 22 proposed camps.
