Officer in police-action fatal shooting is identified

FORT WAYNE – The name of a city police officer involved in a fatal shooting of a robbery suspect Wednesday has released by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Jeffery E. Burkholder Sr., who was commissioned Sept. 25, 1981, with the department remains on administrative leave, according to a written statement issued by the department Thursday morning.

Stephen O’Neal Wattley II, 21, of Fort Wayne was shot and killed early Wednesday.
