Victim stabbed more than a dozen times

Juan Carlos Alvarado

One man was in custody Thursday while two others were in a Fort Wayne hospital after a Wednesday night stabbing north of Warsaw.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputies and emergency personnel were called at 9:03 p.m. to the Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park, 3699 N. County Road 175 East, according to a written statement from the department.

When they arrived, a man identified as Ruben Enciso, 39, was found in a mobile home with about 14 stab wounds, police said.

As members of the Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department were establishing a landing zone for the hospital helicopter, they found a second man, identified as Hugo Alvarado, 33, of Milford, in a ditch area about 150 feet from the stabbing scene, with an apparent leg fracture and bruise on his head.

Both were transported to the Fort Wayne hospital as officers and K-9 units from multiple agencies converged on the area to look for a suspect, identified by police as Juan Carlos Alvarado, 25, of Milford.

Detectives believe that both Alvarado brothers had confronted Enciso in a back bedroom where he was stabbed. Police described it being related to a domestic dispute.

About 12:37 a.m., detectives learned that Juan Alvarado might be at an address in the 300 block of North Columbia Street in Warsaw, just three blocks from the sheriff's department.

Looking through a window, police report that detectives saw Juan Alvarado through a window and then entered the residence. He was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail and preliminarily charged with felony attempted murder with a knife, the police statement said.

The knife, other evidence and a small amount of marijuana were seized at the Columbia Street site, the police said.

Ruben Enciso was listed in serious condition and Hugo Alvarado was in fair condition Thursday morning, the sheriff's department said.

Police said Hugo Alvarado is likely to face more charges in connection with the stabbing and was being held without bond.

Members of the Indiana State Police, Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department and the Milford Police Department assisted with the investigation.

Police have not yet fully determined how Hugo Alvarado's injuries were sustained, said 1st Sgt. Chad Hill, a sheriff's department spokesman.
