Crashes, icy conditions throughout region

Statement as issued by the Fort Wayne post of the Indiana State Police at 9:07 a.m.:

Primary and secondary roads throughout the 11 county coverage area of the Indiana State Police Post in Fort Wayne are snow and ice covered at this time. Troopers have responded to numerous slide offs and vehicle crashes.

A Fort Wayne man escaped serious injury after he attempted to pass another vehicle on State Road 8, between Albion and Kendallville in Noble County this morning. His Jeep slid off the roadway and into a utility pole thus separating the rear axle from the Jeep itself (pictured).

The State Police remind motorists that the weather alone does not cause crashes, driving behavior does. As such, motorists are urged to alter their driving behavior according to existing road and weather conditions. They are also reminded to not over drive their abilities or the abilities of their vehicles. Your vehicle may have four wheel drive, but it does not have four wheel stop.
