Thirty-three years ago tonight ...

So again it's a certain Friday night in February, and the past has wrapped its arms around me again.

Remember? USA 4, Soviet Union 3? Lake Placid? A young Al Michaels yipping, "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

Yours truly was in Elwood, Ind., that night, covering a long-forgotten high school basketball game for the long-forgotten Anderson Daily Bulletin. It was halftime. I was at the scorer's table, getting the details from the JV game. The P.A. guy came on to say something along the lines of "And in Olympic hockey from Lake Placid, the USA 4, the Soviet Union 3!"

The place erupted. And a young, not-at-all-objective sports reporter thrust a fist into the air.

Never forget it. Ever.
