Woman, 20, faces prostitution charge

A 20-year-old Fort Wayne woman was arrested Thursday on prostitution and neglect of a dependent charges after she told police she was prostituting because she “needed diapers for her baby.”

Sydney Williams and a 17-year-old girl were found Thursday in the 2900 block of West Coliseum Boulevard where officers said the two were “advertising their services for prostitution.”

Detectives made arrangements for a “date” with the two women about 9:30 a.m. and offered money in exchange for sex, police said. A short time later, Williams was arrested and charged with promoting prostitution, prostitution and neglect of a dependent.

According to the Department of Child Services, Williams was supposed to be caring for the 17-year-old while the girl’s mother was in jail.

Williams, of the 700 block of Lawton Place, was being held at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $23,250 bail. It was unclear whether the 17-year-old was charged.
