Mom admits killing baby stashed in freezer

TOLEDO, Ohio – A 21-year-old northwest Ohio woman whose newborn infant was found stashed in an apartment freezer has been sentenced to life in prison for killing the child.

Kenisha Pruitt pleaded guilty Friday in Toledo to aggravated murder. As part of the plea agreement, charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence were dropped. She will be eligible for parole after 20 years.

A landlord found the baby boy’s body last April while cleaning out a rental property in Toledo. The coroner said the newborn boy had been strangled and dunked in water. The child lived no more than two days.

Pruitt apologized in a statement for killing the baby.

The baby’s father has pending charges including involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, child endangering and abuse of a corpse.
