SAC split decision: Archers win, Knights fall

Two SAC teams saw different results Saturday at girls basketball semistates.

SAC champion South Side advanced to the Class 4A state finals with a 47-44 win over Warsaw, while Bishop Luers fell to Eastern of Greentown 74-55 in the 2A semistate.

It still shows the strength of the conference, especially after the Knights had advanced to the 2A state title game each of the last three seasons, and Concordia has been crowned the 3A state champ in 2010 and 2012.

South Side is joining the SAC parade at state, becoming the first girls program from the school to advance this far in the postseason.

Canterbury, which plays some of the SAC schools during the regular season, is also headed to the state finals but it won't be a first for the Cavaliers.

It will actually be the fifth time in six years for the Canterbury program.

The Archers and Cavaliers played this year, with South Side getting a 97-73 win.

Both South Side and Canterbury will get rematches of sorts in the state title games.

The Archers will play Bedford North Lawrence in the 4A state title game. BNL beat South Side in the regular season 63-39.

The Cavaliers will meet up with Vincennes Rivet in the 1A state championship.

Canterbury beat Rivet in the 2010 and 2009 state title games.

No matter the outcome next Saturday at Indiana State, the two programs will have combined for the last six state titles.
