Gaines gets record in IPFW win

IPFW senior Frank Gaines became the all-time leading scorer in men's basketball history Saturday in the Mastodons' 88-75 victory over Bowling Green at Memorial Coliseum.

Gaines, the 6-foot-3 guard from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. scored 26 points to increase his career total to 1,773. It replaces the former record of 1,765 held by Sean Gibson, set in 1993.

The win was the fourth straight for the Mastodons (14-16), who close out their regular season next Saturday at Oakland.

Joe Reed and Luis Jacobo added 12 points, and Hines scored 12, including a finishing dunk with less than a minute remaining.

IPFW jumped out to a 43-26 halftime lead on the strength of 10 of 14 shooting from the three-point line.
