Dog, kittens saved from Jimmerson Lake house fire

Firefighters rescued a dog and newborn kittens from a fire Saturday morning at a house near Jimmerson Lake, the Angola Fire Department said.

At 6:53 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 35 Lane 350A Jimmerson Lake in Fremont. They found flames in an attached garage and smoke throughout the one-story house.

The dog was taken from the home and given oxygen. By the time firefighters left, the dog was running around, though the owner planned to have a veterinarian examine the animal, the department said.

Firefighters also rescued newborn kittens that were in a box in the basement. They were in good condition, the department said.

The fire was under control by 7:21 a.m. Authorities determined the cause was electrical and estimated the cost of the damage was $40,000.
