Parents against plea deal

– Parents of a woman who went missing nearly two years ago say they oppose allowing the man charged in her death to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter until he tells authorities the location of her body.

Teresa Edwards and David Armstrong told the Pharos-Tribune that they were blindsided by an announcement that the Howard County prosecutor’s office plans to have a hearing Tuesday in Kokomo before Judge Brant Parry on a proposed plea deal for Travis Funke of Kokomo in the July 2011 death of their 27-year-old daughter, Kelly Armstrong. They say they have not been informed about of the details of the deal.

The Kokomo Tribune reported on Feb. 15 that the plea agreement calls for Funke to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and receive a 50-year sentence – 35 years in prison and 15 suspended.
