IU football season to kick off on a Thursday

Indiana announced Wednesday that it will kickoff the football season on a Thursday night.

The Hoosiers moved their home game against Indiana State to Aug. 29. The kickoff time and television broadcast will be announced at a later date.

The game was originally scheduled for Aug. 31.

The Aug. 29 game will be the third time Indiana has started the season on a Thursday. The Hoosiers are 2-0 in Thursday season openers, defeating Eastern Kentucky in 2009 and Towson in 2010.

The Indiana State game is the first of eight home games for the Hoosiers next season.

Indiana plays host to Navy on Sept. 7 and Bowling Green on Sept. 14. The Hoosiers finish their non-conference schedule at home against Missouri on Sept. 21.

Indiana begins Big Ten play against Penn State on Oct. 5, and it plays host Minnesota to Nov. 2 and Illinois to Nov. 9.

The Hoosiers finish the regular season at home against Purdue for the Old Oaken Bucket on Nov. 30.
