For the police officer, the man’s body language was the giveaway. His combative stance and his abrupt hand movement hinted at the possibility of danger.A Fort Wayne man is accused of stabbing another man several times with a hunting knife, leaving a trail of blood in a south-end apartment.
Jesus Garza, 33, came to South Bridge Apartments, near South Anthony Boulevard and Tillman Road, on Monday morning and banged on the door of a woman he once dated. She came out to speak with him, and he forced his way past her and started fighting with a man in the apartment, court papers said.
Garza grabbed a hunting knife off a kitchen counter, chased the man into a bedroom and began stabbing him. As the woman tried to intervene, Garza cut one of her fingers. She then went to get her cellphone, and Garza broke it in half. He eventually left, and police arrived shortly afterward to find blood throughout the unit, court papers said.
Police found Garza about a half-mile away, walking behind the Public Safety Academy. The man Garza stabbed was hospitalized with two wounds to the chest, one wound to the side of his face, one to his elbow, one to his arm and one to his back, court papers stated.
Garza, of the 1200 block of Roosevelt Drive, was preliminarily charged Tuesday with aggravated battery, burglary, interference with the report of a crime, two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held at the Allen County Lockup in lieu of $60,750 bail.
