Michael Fabini faces 44-count indictment

Nearly three months after members of a federal task force raided his Cherry Hill home, Michael Fabini faces a 44-count federal indictment accusing him of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Fabini appeared in U.S. District Court this afternoon for a hearing on the charges, alongside Marshall Butler, also indicted in the case.

According to court documents, Butler and Fabini, the brother of former NFL player Jason Fabini, conspired to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana between September 2007 and Dec. 6, 2012.

At the time of the raid on Michael Fabini's home, officials close to the investigation said Jason Fabini was not the target of the original investigation. His name does not appear in any of the court documents unsealed Thursday.

Michael Fabini, however, is accused of multiple counts of money laundering – moving tens of thousands of dollars in cash through area banks and into unnamed businesses. The money was gained through drug trafficking, according to court documents.

Michael Fabini kept a number of the transactions under the amount needed to trigger a mandatory transaction report to federal officials, according to court documents.

The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of Michael Fabini's 7,700-square-foot house and all improvements to it. Originally purchased in 2009, Michael Fabini expanded it extensively – including 3,691 square feet in the basement.
