2 women charged in store thefts after police chase

Two women – one of them from Fort Wayne – were arrested Wednesday after being caught shoplifting at the Outlet Shoppes at Fremont and leading police on a chase on Interstate 69, police said.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, the two women – Shaholony Monique Stanford and Breonda Shontae Easterly-Conwell – were spotted shoving clothes into a shopping bag and leaving the store without paying for the items at 11:50 a.m.

As police approached the two women as they were trying to leave in their vehicle, they fled from police south onto I-69. The officer followed the women until they stopped south of U.S. 6. Both women were then arrested, police said.

Stanford, 29, of Indianapolis, was charged with theft, possession of stolen property and resisting law enforcement by vehicle. Easterly-Conwell, 24, of Fort Wayne, was charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

The women had stolen about $1,500 worth of items from at least four stores, police said.
