•The McMillen Center for Health Education announced the nominees for the 2013 Vitality Awards, which will be presented March 21. The nominees are: Health Educator Award – Nancy Mann, Lisa Mettler, Cheryl Roush, Connie Slyby and Brenda Valliere; Prevention Award – Linda Kerr, Cassondara Johnson, Tara McHenry and Cicely Ware, Lynn Reecer and Stephanie Schultz, Maynard Scales and Nora Stewart; and Wellness Award – Jeffrey Gladd, Mary Pat Leonard, Joe Schenkel, Shauna Shafer, Rick and Tina Walters and Kathy Wehrle.

Jay Linnemeier of Fort Wayne has been selected by Hoosier ReLeaf as a semifinalist for the Alliance for Community Trees 2012 Volunteer of the Year award.

Ciera Leughmyer of Columbia City was named the female winner of PETA’s 2013 Cutest Vegan Kids contest. The 5-year-old will have the opportunity to appear in a PETA kids ad.

Giving back

Local beauty salons the Loft and the Hair Department are offering one free makeover a week for women to help raise awareness for the Allen County SPCA, leading up to the shelter’s CatWalk fundraiser Nov. 9. To nominate someone, visit www.allencountyspcacatwalk.org.

Volunteers
