Lakewood Park's zone vanishes

Lakewood Park came out in the Hamilton Class A Sectional finals against Canterbury on Monday in a zone defense.

But it didn't last long.

The Cavaliers hit three-pointers, two by Chase Moyle and one by Grant Sinn, on their first three possessions and the Panthers quickly went to man-to-man.

"We shot them right out of their zone," Canterbury's Trent VanHorn said after the Cavs' 57-56 win.

Overall, Canterbury hit seven three-pointers, four by Sinn, two by Moyle and one from VanHorn.

Lakewood Park, though, stayed in the game until the end despite hitting only two three-pointers and trimmed a double-figure halftime lead, 34-24, to three, 56-53, with 16 seconds left.

"We kept responding," said VanHorn, who finished with 22 points. "We knew they were a good team, and they would make a run. We kept making plays down the stretch, and that's the reason we were able to pull it out.

"We had a few plays go against us down the stretch, and we did a good job of responding on the offensive end."

Moyle had 15 points, and Sinn scored 12.
