Check out today's story on the Komets, who are off to a 2-0-0 start this season. We explore how and why the captain, Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock, has looked so good, so far this season.

Big week; discussion topic

It's an important week for the Komets, if they want to make the playoffs, and not just because they have back-to-back games with the Florida Everblades (my favorite name and logo in the ECHL).

Check out this story -- click here -- on some important deadlines that will pass before Friday's game at Memorial Coliseum.

  • Did you see this? Click here. That coach is lucky I wasn't refereeing. By the way, the officials are totally out of position during the handshake line.
  • And I want to leave you with a discussion topic that has been popular in the office. And, no, it's not because I'm a Red Wings fan, because I would feel the same if Detroit were doing this. The Chicago Blackhawks have gained a point in 22 straight games. Impressive, no doubt. But I think a lot of people have lost sight of the fact that they have lost three games (in extra time), which has dredged up for me a rule I hate -- rewarding teams for losing games. For those of you youngsters, you may not remember a time when there were ties. I never had a problem with them. But the NHL in its Gary Bettman-led wisdom decided fans needed more excitement. But you know what I do hate? Losing in shootouts. Could you imagine deciding an NBA overtime game by free throws? Yuck. So, do you like the system the way it is? I would prefer this: All victories get three points (to dissuade teams from playing for ties), no points for losing in overtime, no shootouts, go five minutes 4-on-4, five minutes 3-on-3, then call it with one point each if there's a tie. I know it'll never happen, but that's my dream.
