One of those golf deals

Let's get this out there right off the hop: Some of the stuff that people do (or don't do) in golf just flat puzzles me.

Case in point for today is the kerfuffle surrounding Rory McIlroy's decision to pull out of the Honda Open mid-round last weekend. His stated reason was that his wisdom teeth were hurting like the dickens, but that didn't square well with the golf establishment, which roundly criticized him for leaving the course.

Even McIlroy agreed, saying he should have stayed and played out the round, and that he regrets letting down all those kids who look up to him as the No. 1 golfer in the world.

A noble sentiment from a noble young man. But again, I don't get it.

If the guy's hurting, he's hurting. And since he was headed for a missed cut, anyway, what's the biggie here?

Just another one of those weird golf deals, I guess.
