Gary, South Bend mayors appear in gun-control ad

INDIANAPOLIS – The mayors of two northern Indiana cities appear in a new public service announcement urging Congress to toughen gun laws.

The ad features South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson. It is sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The group wants Congress to take action to pass legislation to require background checks for all sales, to limit military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and to make gun trafficking a federal crime.

The ad features 30 mayors, including Bloomberg, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.
