Deputy attacked; burglary suspect arrested

A Steuben County sheriff’s deputy was attacked by a burglary suspect early Monday in Angola, according to a statement issued by the Angola Police Department. Deputy William Lanoue responded to a call after Angola officers arrived at the scene of a complaint about a suspicious person on North Wayne Street shortly before 1:30 a.m., Chief Stuart Hamblen’s statement said. It said they found the suspect had fled.

Lanoue approached the suspect at Maumee and South Elizabeth streets, was attacked and injured in the face, and continued to chase him, the statement said.

An Indiana State Police trooper caught the suspect, identified as Tyler Osborn, 26, the statement said. It said Osborn was charged with burglary, battery to a police officers and resisting arrest by fleeing.

The statement said Lanoue was treated for facial injuries at an area hospital and released.

The front door of a gas station in the 600 block of North Wayne Street had been smashed out, the statement said.
