KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers is playing some of the best hockey in franchise history -- check out my video later tonight to see some gems -- but it's too bad few will remember it all because the Komets win so seldom.

Tonight, they lost 3-2 to the Kalamazoo Wings at Wings Stadium, in front of 3,467 fans.

The Komets' effort was good. They got 36 shots on goal. But, as has been the case all season long, they had trouble scoring.

Heck, even Brandon Marino, one of the best scorers in the ECHL, missed the net entirely on a short-handed breakaway.

“A lot of guys are getting frustrated and it’s getting in our heads, but we’ve just got to keep going for the next eight games. We’ll keep playing hard and see what happens,” said Thomas Beauregard, who netted a power-play goal for the Komets.

For the 35th time in 64 games this season, the Komets failed to score more than two goals. Digest that one for awhile.

They gave up two goals on odd-man rushes and one off a backdoor pass. So I'm not going to say their defense is great. But the Komets could have, and should have, won this game.

But they just overthink it when it comes to scoring.

There was a late odd-man rush and Nick Schaus was so focused on passing, he driffted away from scoring position until he was behind the net and no one got a shot.

Just shoot the puck, guys.

“Effort isn’t enough,” Beauregard said. “You’ve got to score goals. We missed on too many chances. Deslauriers played unbelievably and gave us a chance to win, but we just couldn’t score. Guys need to score – that’s the bottom line.”
