An SUV, overturned in a field, was the lone vehicle in the fatal crash along Washington Center Road near O'Day Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Crash kills 1 on Washington Center Road

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is at the scene of a single-vehicle fatal crash in the 6400 block of West Washington Center Road, department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkle said.

Deputies were called to Washington Center Road at Flaugh Road at 3:40 p.m. about the rollover crash, Tinkle said a written statement.

A dark SUV driven by a female left the north side of the road and started to roll. She was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

She was not wearing her seat belt, and speed was also a factor in the crash, according to the statement from Tinkle.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Washington Center Road between Flaugh and O’Day were expected to be closed until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Drivers are urged to find an alternative route.
