IU cruises in NCAA tourney opener

DAYTON, Ohio – Indiana had little trouble playing as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 20 years.

The Hoosiers dispatched for No. 16 seed James Madison 83-62 Friday in the second round of the East region at University of Dayton Arena.

Indiana (28-6) will play No. 9 seed Temple (24-9) in the third round Sunday with a chance to advance to the Sweet 16 for a second year in a row. The East Regional shifts to Washington D.C. next week.

IU, which was last a No. 1 seed in the tournament in 1993, hit 29 of 55 shots while holding James Madison (21-15) to 26-of-62 shooting.

Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell, who scored the games first nine points, led the Hoosiers with 16 points, and Will Sheehey added 15 off the bench. Cody Zeller and Victor Oladip each had 11 points, and Jordan Hulls added 10.
