And Another Thing

A major uprising

Remember the palmy days of 2006, when George Mason reached the Final Four and all the talk was about the Rise of the Mid-Major in college buckets?

Remember Butler making the title game two years running in 2010 and 2011, and the Rise became a Trend?

Well ... that sure looked like a Trend flying off with the angels last night along with Butler's last shot, an airball that not even the old Butler magic could do much with.

It ended Butler's tournament two games in, at the hands of, yes, Marquette, from the power Big East. And it followed another Trend, at least for Saturday: Power conference teams sending the mid-majors home.

Butler losing to Marquette. St. Louis losing to Oregon. VCU getting pummeled by Michigan. Harvard being shown the road by Arizona. What the heck, throw in Colorado State (of the Mountain West Conference) getting ball-peened by Louisville.

The big dogs are eating again. With gusto.
