Helicopter from I&M to check lines

FORT WAYNE – Beginning April 12, Indiana Michigan Power is scheduled begin conducting inspections of its transmission lines in northeast Indiana and western Ohio, the company announced Tuesday.

The Fort Wayne-based company said the inspectors are looking for damaged equipment and tree encroachments on its high-voltage lines.

The work in the region is expected to end April 18, the company said.

The Bell Jet Ranger helicopter has a burgundy and white color scheme with silver stripes (tail number N54DE). It will fly 50 to 100 feet above the lines at a speed of 40 mph to 45 mph, the company said, covering about 350 miles a day. It might also circle a single structure or area several times.

Flights are done between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Indiana customers with questions or concerns about aerial inspections can call 800-311-4634.
