From 8 p.m. Sunday through Monday afternoon, 5.5 inches of heavy, damp snow blanketed Fort Wayne, according to Katie Gross, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Syracuse.
Throughout the county, snowfall totals ranged from 4 inches in the north to 6.5 inches south of Fort Wayne, Gross said.
Monday’s high temperature reached 36 degrees before falling to about 26 degrees overnight, she said. Temperatures are expected to continue to increase with highs in the 50s expected for the weekend.
Today’s expected highs in the 40s will begin the melting process, Gross said. Wednesday and Thursday’s high temperatures are expected to be 38 degrees and 42 degrees, respectively.
Because the snowfall led to an extra day off for students, Fort Wayne Community Schools pushed back its last day of school for the 2012-13 school year. The last day for students will now be June 7.
