Kicked out, Nevada lawmaker arrested again

LAS VEGAS – Former Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks has been arrested in California, just hours after state lawmakers took the unprecedented step of expelling him.

Jail records show 41-year-old Brooks was arrested by Barstow police at about 7 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 15 at Stoddard Wells.

He remains in a San Bernardino County jail on $100,000 bail on charges including resisting an officer and throwing a small object at a vehicle.

The Nevada Assembly voted Thursday morning to oust Brooks, after Assembly Majority Leader William Horne called him “potentially dangerous” and said lawmakers didn’t feel safe with him in the building.

This is the third time the North Las Vegas Democrat has been arrested since January. He’s accused of making threats toward his colleagues, including Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
