McGraw earns coaching award

Notre Dame's Muffet McGraw was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association women's national coach of the year.

McGraw, who last won the award in 2001 the year she led the Irish to the NCAA tournament championship, will be recognized by the USBWA at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the New Orleans Sports Arena in advance of the NCAA women's tournament Final Four.

McGraw has led Notre Dame to a third straight Final Four, and the Irish will play Connecticut in the national semifinals at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Irish have won a school record 30 straight games entering the Final Four and are 35-1 this season.
