TinCaps rally late for win

On the cusp of being shut out in their second game of the season, the TinCaps unleashed six runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Great Lakes Loons 6-2 Friday night in Midland, Mich.

Things were going fine for the Loons (0-2) until Daniel Carela took the mound. He gave up three hits and four runs without getting an out.

The rally started with a Mallex Smith single on a line drive at Carela, then continued with a Jeremy Baltz RBI single and a Gabriel Quintana infield RBI. Even after Carela was pulled, the rally continued with four more runs, including two on a Alberth Martinez triple.

Fort Wayne's Matthew Shepherd sat the Loons 1-2-3 to cinch the victory in front of 1,147 fans.

Martinez and Baltz were both 2 for 4 for the TinCaps (2-0).

Fort Wayne starter Max Fried gave up one hit, stuck out five and walked four in four innings. Genison Reyes, the second reliever in the game, pitched one scoreless inning to get the victory, as the Loons totaled only two hits.
