Are Peoria, Indy coming?

In what is an increasingly confusing situation, the Peoria Journal Star reported that the ECHL does indeed have interest in getting Peoria back into the league.

Click here to read that story, noting that commissioner Brian McKenna told the newspaper that the deadline for entering next season has passed. (Is there really any reason to stick to that deadline? Especially if a couple CHL teams wanted to come, too.)

The story also noted, without attribution, what most people in these parts suspect: That Indianapolis will be in the ECHL when renovations to Pepsi Coliseum are completed.

It's worth noting that I've heard from some people that ECHL hockey isn't a priority in Indianapolis because a) they believe the American Hockey League would be a better fit for a city of Indianapolis' size (to which I disagree) and b) concerts are entirely more important than pro hockey anyway.

There's no question the Komets would love to have Indianapolis. Peoria would be OK, too, but it would be off on an island, unless we start seeing teams from the CHL move over, too.
