$25,000 reward set in post office heist

Sketch of suspect

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a man who tried to rob a Fort Wayne post office in December.

The man was described as 6-foot-3, thin and black, with short hair. He was in his early 20s, wore a black hooded sweatshirt and was armed with a handgun.

The man’s alleged accomplice in the robbery attempt, Julius Lawson, 34, was arrested in January. Lawson was being held without bail Friday at the Allen County Jail.

The two are accused of trying to rob employees and customers Dec. 19 in the Diplomat Post Office at 4171 Diplomat Plaza Center, near McKinnie Avenue and Hessen Cassel Road.

Anyone with information about the would-be robber who remains at large can call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 271-4709.
