The Week Ahead

Curtis Smith

A 60s flashback

Coming into the weekend, we only had three 60-degree days this year – and two of them were in January! That is changing now. Of course, it is April, and far past the time we should be getting to this point.

Up to now, the vast majority of our moisture this year has been in the form of snow, but now rain is returning to the picture (April showers). While the temperatures haven’t been what most of us have wanted through the first part of the year, this precipitation is good news.

So far (knock on wood), there are no signs of slipping into the drought conditions of last year. The late-season snow, while painful at the time, has help to assure a good amount of ground moisture as we finally move into spring. That is a great sign.

WEATHER WISE: Weird stat alert: While April is famous for showers, only two April days have ever produced more than 2 inches of rain in Fort Wayne. By comparison, we have had six such days in March and eight in May.
