The TinCaps announced a pair of roster moves today in an effort to further groom some of their young pitching talent.
Fort Wayne moved Felix Cabrera, a 23-year-old infielder, to the Padres' Short Season A affiliate, the Eugene Emeralds. That move freed up roster space for first-round supplemental draft pick Walker Weickel, a right-handed pitcher who will make his first start for the TinCaps today.
Weickel, 19, was selected 55th overall in the supplemental draft and becomes the fourth starting pitcher on the roster selected within the first 55 MLB Draft picks in the past two years. He notched a 4.50 ERA last summer with the Arizona League Padres.
