Bryson Scott, Beachem to team up on All-Star squad

Beachem

Northrop’s Bryson Scott and New Haven’s V.J. Beachem will team up once again as part of the 2013 Indiana All-Stars, announced Tuesday by the sponsoring Indianapolis Star.

The two senior boys basketball players have played on the same team before, back in their early AAU days as well as a couple of games last year with the Junior All-Star team.

“It is an honor and a blessing to be an Indiana All-Star, something I have wanted to be since I found out about the whole thing,” said Beachem, a Notre Dame recruit. “It is truly a testament to God, my teammates, coaches and my parents. And having two guys on the Indiana All-Star team gives this area a lot more respect.”

It will be one of the rare times Scott will play in an organized game without his twin brother, Brenton, something they must get used to with Bryson headed to Purdue and Brenton to Indiana State.

“It means a lot. I feel like I worked hard, and I feel I kind of deserved to be on the team, not to be cocky,” Scott said.. “It is an honor, and I feel blessed. Hopefully we can beat Kentucky. I played with V.J. before, but I was with my brother (in AAU). It is going to be a little weird, but I know me and (Beachem) are going to rep Fort Wayne and do the best we can.”

The Indiana All-Stars will play the Kentucky All-Stars on June 14 in Louisville and at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on June 15. The All-Stars will also play two exhibition games against the Junior All-Stars on June 10 and 12 at locations to be announced later

Last year, Beachem was a core junior all-star, while Scott was on the north team.

“I like our chances,” Beachem said of the Indiana team. “Hopefully we can go 4-0. Last year, we lost to the Seniors and split with Kentucky. Hopefully we can take care of the Juniors and beat Kentucky two times this year. We got to know more about our team, and we got to play with each other last year. We have seen Kentucky play before, and we know some of the guys they have.”

The two played against each other in the Marion Regional semifinals, with Beachem’s New Haven team beating Scott’s Northrop squad, 65-60.

Team Indiana also includes Mr. Basketball Zak Irvin from Hamilton Southeastern and McDonald’s All-American Demetrius Jackson from Mishawaka Marian.

“Last year, I got to play with them in the north (Junior All-Stars) games, and we got to talking a lot,” Scott said. “We wanted to be as good as last year’s team, if not better. We feel like we have that chance.”
